More Sharing Nature Articles

Dear Friend,

Welcome to our first Sharing Nature Worldwide Online Journal!

This summer Joseph Cornell will offer a new workshop called, "How to Be a Creative and an Inspiring Teacher." In this program, participants will learn many skills for becoming more effective and influential educators. Like the Sharing Nature Conference Retreat, the course will be held at Ananda Village's guest facility, The Expanding Light.

In this issue there are three insightful articles on inspirational teaching. Besides Joseph's, one is by Nancy Spagnoli, a very creative fourth-grade teacher living in Montana, and another, by J. Donald Walters, author of "Education for Life."

Sharing Nature methods and ideals continue to find eager audiences all around the world. Sang-Wook Chang from Seoul has just started the Korea Sharing Nature Association. While in graduate school in Japan, Mr. Chang was a member of Japan Nature Game Association. We also have new Sharing Nature country coordinators for Hong Kong, China, Spain and Mexico.

Two of our country coordinators, Gabriela Flores, Mexico, and Shin-ichi Furihata, Japan, have written messages to bring us up-to-date on Sharing Nature news in their respective countries. Gabriela has incorporated Sharing Nature activities in her inspiring work in a Tijuana orphanage, while Shin-ichi has written about their new Sharing Nature school in the Japanese Alps. This July/August, Joseph will tour Sweden for the first time, giving workshops for the Swedish Nature Schools Association.

As you probably know, Flow Learning is the teaching strategy we use to share our nature awareness activities. Based on the way people learn most naturally, this gentle but dynamic process allows leaders to reach people where they are, and bring them sensitively into meaningful and moving experiences of nature.

"A Visit to Fireflies" and "Experiencing Sunflowers" are two wonderful nature experiences based on the four Flow Learning stages. Ching Ching, the educational officer of the Gaia School in Hong Kong, has reported on her popular Firefly activity, and Peter Moser, our Swiss country coordinator, has described the Sunflower activity that his student teachers created. In addition, Joseph has written a description for the "The Trail of Beauty" activity. This new activity is one of our most popular ones-and is one of Joseph's favorites.

We would love to hear from you, and to find out how you are doing. We also would appreciate any comments that you'd like to share. If you ever have an article, activity, or idea that you would like to submit to our journal, please contact us at info@sharingnature.com.

In Peace & Beauty,
Joseph and Colleen
