Sandy ‘Priya’ Wong
Sharing Nature Worldwide International Director
Sandy was born a nature lover. She grew up experiencing joy in a variety of natural environments, both in the United States and the Andes of South America. Her diverse experiences in Nature truly informed her life work. Sandy’s career as an educator has promoted learning that engages children and teachers in meaningful experiences, a far cry from most traditional education models.
In 1992 she learned of the work of Joseph Cornell, the founder of Sharing Nature Worldwide. Joseph’s classic, Sharing Nature with Children, was clearly a revolutionary approach that was guaranteed to engage children -and adults- in the gifts and miracles of Nature.
In 2001 Sandy became the co-founder and executive director of Forest Charter School, a Personalized Learning Program that again emphasized the importance of experiential learning and Education for Life. Jane Goodall’s “Roots and Shoots” program was adopted by several of the Forest Charter classes, and outdoor education was embraced by the Forest Charter teachers.
Joseph’s seminal book Flow Learning, provides 4 simple and magnetic steps to engage the learner and has become the model for every workshop and teaching opportunity that arises now in her experience.
Currently, Sandy and her husband reside in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains in California near Lake Tahoe, a natural setting for Sharing Nature to blossom and expand to teachers, parents, and children and to the larger community. Greg Traymar, the former Sharing Nature International Director, has conducted 2 inspiring trainings for the Forest Charter School staff and to Tahoe Donner Camp Counselors.
Sandy looks forward to serving Sharing Nature’s worldwide movement and supporting its ongoing mission.
Degrees: Bachelor of Science Education and Masters Degree Multicultural Education, University of Colorado
